In less than 10 hours, the Daylesford community has donated bags full of tinsel and baubles which will soon fill Vincent Street.
It came after local Sue Waters posted on the Daylesford Community Grapevine Facebook page, saying the town needed more Christmas cheer.
"I just thought the town needed some colour because you can't really see our decorations in the main street," she said.
"All of a sudden, the idea took off and it's just blown me away."
Since the post, several people have dropped off decorations and offered to help put them up in town.
Ms Waters said a band of about six volunteers will take to the streets tonight to carry out the guerilla mission.
"It really shows how great this community is and how we can work together to achieve something," Ms Waters said.
"It's just crazy how this has happened so quickly and it's just going to be fun to go on the mission tonight."
Daylesford Police has been contacted regarding the decorations.
