The group took part in Life Saving Victoria’s Open Water Learning Experience program at Calembeen Park Lake, which included real-life scenarios and emergency response sequences.
Co-ordinator Laura Parkins said the course would prepare children for the peak summer season.
“The program has a strong focus on empowering students with knowledge on how to be water-ready in and around water," she said.
"We want to give them practical strategies, including how to identify dangers and read key safety signs."
The qualified instructors are on a two-week tour to educate more than 1000 students across the state on how to enjoy water safely and what to do in an emergency.
