The players are heeding advice to stay together and support each other over their teammate's death, as local authorities cancelled Saturday's grade-cricket matches in Adelaide because of the distress caused by it.

Bradshaw said players, like anyone, dealt with grief in different ways and at different speeds. Because of that, he stressed he was unable to indicate when the Redbacks would resume training and playing.

"How do you define 'back to normal'? Right now, none of us feel that anything will every be back to normal," he said.

"We're taking it hour-by-hour, day-by-day. Cricket, everything else is just secondary at the moment to caring for our players, the family and all those people who have been involved."

The chief executive said he was encouraged that positive memories of Hughes had already begun to emerge from the group.

"Last night, through the tears and through the emotion, there were many stories that emerged of Phillip's feats on the field, and those stand for themselves," Bradshaw said on Friday at Adelaide Oval.

Bradshaw said Hughes' love of cricket in general, not just playing it, was reflected by the fact that in just over two years in Adelaide he had led "hundreds" of clinics, which had entrenched his popularity among SA children.

Two Redbacks players originally from NSW, Tom Cooper and Adam Zampa, were in Sydney on Thursday. Both are due to return to Adelaide by Friday evening, which will allow the entire group to be together. SACA is paying particular attention to Cooper, who shared a house with Hughes, was his touring roommate and was batting with him when the fatal blow occurred.

"I'm sure he's certainly feeling it. I spoke to him again this morning," said Tim Nielsen, SA's general manager of high performance. "He's getting through it. It's been tough for him, it's been tough for us all ... but he's got a lot of mates around here that will jump in tight and look after him."

Nielsen lauded the way the Redbacks players had rallied around each other since the Sheffield Shield match against NSW was abandoned because of Hughes' plight.

"It's a real credit to them that over the past three or four days when there's been so much uncertainty that there's been so much concern [for each other] they've been able to keep themselves together as a group ... we've been very proud of what they've done."

As well as caring for Cooper, chief executive Bradshaw said particularly attention would be paid to the welfare of coach Darren Berry, physiotherapist John Porter and bowling coach Rob Cassell, all of whom witnessed not only the delivery that felled Hughes but also the altercation just over a decade ago in which David Hookes was killed.

"We're certainly very mindful of those three ... having been through the terrible David Hookes situation," he said.

On an adjoining ground to Adelaide Oval the women's Twenty20 match between South Australia and ACT was preceded by a minute's silence.

Wellwishers have left many floral and cricketing tributes to Hughes outside the main gate of Adelaide Oval, in front of a poster depicting the batsman with a typically beaming smile.

"We were honoured to have seen him in the baggy green fighting for his country, and for that we are grateful," wrote one Hughes supporter, who signed it "Cheree – and Australia".

Bradshaw said the SACA was "extremely thankful" for such tributes, as well as the electronic messages which have flooded social media in the past few days.

"Phillip will always be remembered. He was truly loved and that's been reflected by the thousands, if not millions, of tributes that have flowed in from around the world to recognise our mate, who we loved so dearly and who we will miss so very much," the chief executive said.

A condolence book is available at Adelaide Oval for anybody wanting to formalise their tribute to Hughes.
