By early 1870s a new company was established at the mineral spring. Two brothers named Joske had each claimed rights to any lease here. Alexander Joske did finally secure the rights together with his existing lease of the Ballan Mineral Spring.
A detailed analysis of the mineral water was eventually obtained and used to heavily promote sales and use of the spring’s water.
A pamphlet of Medical Opinions on the Hepburn Mineral Spring Water, 1872 was published that included testaments by many well-known doctors, surgeons and others.
Expensive copper canisters were first used to transport the mineral water but cheaper steel cans produced by the local Daylesford firm, Curtis and Loukes, soon replaced these.
Cobb & Co were running coaches every Sunday from the Jamison Hotel, Daylesford to Crippa’s Hotel at Spring Creek (Hepburn Springs).
The reserve was expanded by a further 23 Acres starting in 1869, while the Company had lease to three acres adjoining the reserve.

A new footbridge is being planned to cross Spring Creek within the Springs Reserve thanks to Hepburn Shire.
It will replace a much earlier timber one at the same area as seen in this 1903 photo kindly donated by Mrs Joan Burke.
Joan is a descendant of Giuseppe and Kate Rolleri who operated the famous Mineral Springs Hotel & Parma House for about 50 years.
The Taking the Waters – 150 Years of the Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve committee is well underway with the event format and has secured some base funding. We are now asking local businesses to assist in supporting this community event.
