That's what the Garage Sale Trail is all about, after all.
The national event will offer a range of treasures for local hunters, with recycling and sustainability top priorities for sellers and buyers alike.
The trail stretches across the country, and encourages people to offer up items they don’t need so they can be put to better use.
There are five garage sales registered in the region – and another 11 in Ballarat, Buninyong and Creswick.
Ms Thannhauser will set up a 'village style' sale across half an acre on her Newlyn property, with unique items from locals on offer.
She said people were most excited about "the thrill of the chase".
"It's just great to share things with other people and everyone has stuff they don't want any more," she said.
"Recycling is our lifestyle and we have built our whole house from off-cuts, things we've made ourselves and products only available locally.
"We wouldn't have it any other way."
The Daylesford Arts, Recreation and Cultural Centre will also take part in the trail to raise money for the centre.
"Whether it's something old, new, vintage or home-wares, (it's all about finding) those hidden gems," the centre said.
Garage Sale Trail co-founder Andrew Valder said the event provided people with an opportunity to buy and sell goods while having fun.
“It makes the purchase more interesting and buyers then add their own history to the piece,” he said.
Shoppers can map out where they would like to visit on October 25 and 26 by creating a treasure trail at www.garagesaletrail.com.au
Ms Thannhauser's event will be held at 2903 Midland Highway, Newlyn, from 9am to 4pm both days.
The ARC sale is on from 10am to 3pm that weekend at 39 Smith Street. Contact kareenah@ourneighbourhood.org.au to book a table.
