Chris Waller said it would have been embarrassing not to have won a race where he had five of the eight runners but he still left punters shaking their heads as favourite Beyond Thankful flopped. Waller's other four filled the first four placings when Rugged Cross showed his liking for a wet track once again, beating home stablemates Tougher Than Ever, Eigelstein and Lucky Chappy. "It's embarrassing when they don't win, simple as that," Waller said. "Rugged Cross ran last week at Moonee Valley but the track was too firm. The beauty of having stables in Melbourne and Sydney is that we were able to bring him home to run on the wet track. One or two of these horses will now probably head to the Cameron Handicap at Newcastle." Waller was disappointed with Beyond Thankful after a soft run up front. Hugh Bowman suggested he might have raced better with cover. "It was a bit disappointing on face value, but I think he's a horse that's ridden with a sit. Leading," Bowman said. "He raced a bit fresh and just ran himself into the ground."
