TRENTHAM Saints finished off the season with a fantastic fighting win against Talbot on Talbot’s home ground.
The Saints started positively, led by Mark Strickland and Chris Whelan, and after scoring an early goal the Saints trailed by four points at the first break.
In the second term Talbot outscored the Saints kicking five goals to the Saints’ two and, at half time, the score was Talbot 7-5-47 to the Saints 3-8-26.
During the half-time break, the Saints responded to coach Clayton Scobles’ address and went into the second half a different side.
An amazing 58-point term changed the game with the Saints gaining the upper hand.
The Saints finished the game to win by 23 points.
Luke Whitehouse kicked five goals, Justin Hoffman, Shaun Harrison and Taylor Drew two goals, one goal to Cal Wellings, James Cann and Matt Traynor.
Best for the Saints were Chris Whelan, Mark Strickland, Kasey Williams, Lewis Bruton, Luke Whitehouse and Cal Wellings.
Credit to Clayton Scoble and training staff for shaping this young side which finished the year off defeating a top eight side convincingly.
The Saints’ Reserves got off to a slow start and Talbot jumped to a 22-point lead at quarter time. Talbot kicked out to a 19-point lead at three-quarter time and in the last term the Saints came at Talbot but the siren sounded and Talbot hung on to win by eight.
Goals went to Micky Day with three, Ray Tadd and Paul Botheras, two, and Corie Slater, Justin Scott and Peter Connor with one goal each. Among the best were John Letchford, James Coleman, Peter Connor, Micky Day and Simon Boxall.
Trentham’s U17.5s had a hard game against Talbot but outclassed them to win well.
Goal kickers were Cal Wellings and Trystan Paderno with two each, John Iro, Jake Beecham, Mark Engstrom and Robbie Byrne with one each. Best for the Saints were Jack Wheeldon, Cal Wellings, Jake Beetcham, Robbie Byrne, Liam Douglas and John Iro.
U15s played Friday night under lights and had a great win over Maldon. Darcy Meade-Sweet kicked seven, Zane French five, Joal Dovaston three, Mark Turvey two, Nathan Botheras, Jake Keogh, Harrison Knight and Nick Hartfel all kicked one goal. Among the best were Jake Keogh, Zane French, Darcy Meade-Sweet, Joel Dovaston, Ryan Bourke and Phillip Kirley.
U12s played a great team game and had their first win against Maldon by eight points. Stirling Keane, Tim Brown and Sam Evans all kicked a goal and best for the Saints were Stirling Keane, Tyson Scoble, Stefan Lendrec, Ben Ekstedt, Kelsie Bickerdyke and Tim Brown.
Trentham A Grade finished the season with a great win over Talbot.
The Saints led from the beginning and continued to edge ahead, taking out the game by nine goals. All of the girls played extremely well.
Saints B Grade found Talbot too strong with Emma Wheeldon, Bridget Faux and Emma Chaplin playing well.
C Grade had a good game but Talbot got the points on the day.
Olivia Yelland, Mynette Sundblom and May Pratt all had a good game.
Tahlia Bickerdyke, Jaya Peeler and Hayley Bourke were among the best for the 17 and under side.
The 15 and under girls had a great win and among the best were Kasey Evans and Hayley Bourke.
The 13 and under girls found Talbot too strong and among the best were Tiarna Reid, Holly Scoble and Kasey Evans.
