The ‘‘old girl’s’’ glory day’s are back. Speeches were made and ribbons cut by major contributors, MLC for Western Victoria David O’Brien and Hepburn Shire  Mayor Don Henderson. 

Mollongghip Community Hall secretary Gib Wettenhall said refurbishments had  involved repainting throughout, installing new gas heaters, ceiling fans and pendant lights,  tung oil polished floors courtesy of the Creswick Men’s Shed, doors being  rehung, stair treads and stair rails upgraded, and installing a fire pump and hose out back.

‘‘All this was done within the hall’s existing structure and in a way that was sensitive to the hall’s heritage,’’ Mr Wettenhall said.

‘‘We’re great believers in the ‘small is beautiful’ approach and that bigger is not necessarily better.’’

The hall’s makeover is finally completed after 30 years of incremental upgrades. 

‘‘Now we’re ready and open for business,’’ he said. 

Land for the hall was donated by the local Macklin family who were farmers in the area in 1903, with the hall built by other farmers in the area.

Money was raised to renovate by holding a progressive dinner and many entertaining skits. 

The 10th poetry slam competition will be held in the hall later this year.

The committee raised $10,000 from wine auctions every year, and $20,000 came from the state government.
