The 37-year-old man had allegedly broken into an alarmed house about 2pm before fleeing when the homeowner returned.
Police said the suspect allegedly then drove a stolen car into the state forest, and then went to a nearby residential area on foot.
‘‘He decamped from a vehicle in the state forest area,’’ Leading Senior Constable Ian Wallace said.
‘‘He was found to be in one of the residential areas off the forest, and there police set up a perimeter.’’
He ran through several backyards and hid out as police sealed the area. Six or more units attended the scene.
The dog squad was called but not needed as police found him in a backyard about 4.20pm.
Investigations continue.
