The new amenity block was officially opened by Nationals member for Western Victoria David O’Brien last week.
Association vice-president Ian Kronberger, who spoke about the history of the project, said: ‘‘It’s worth noting that CRWA have achieved (raising funds) a great deal in a short period of time.’’
The total cost of $31,000 to upgrade the railway goods shed would help make the facilities more user-friendly, increasing the use of the facility for training, workshops, and events.
‘‘By improving these facilities we are increasing training opportunities for young people and encouraging the next generation to use their skills for the benefit of the whole community,’’ Mr O’Brien said.
‘‘This will have a knock-on effect on the types of businesses looking to set up in Creswick in future.’’
Over the next six months the goods shed amenities will be completely upgraded, with the addition of toilet facilities, along with beautification and landscaping works.
This will support increased use of the facility for arts and trades workshop activities, local markets, concerts and art exhibitions.
Mr O’Brien said the Victorian government was contributing $20,000 to the project, with the CRWA contributing about $11,000, with substantial funding via its Recycle Central Op Shop.
