Luckily, children were absent from the playground due to parent-teacher interviews when a shade sail collapsed in a storm.
School principal Sonia Jardine said: ‘‘A storm came through and thankfully our Parent Teacher 3 Way Conference Day was in progress when a freak wind event obliterated our senior shade sail’’.
Witnessed by one of the integration aides, the wind tore one pole from the ground and twisted the remaining poles as if they were pipe cleaners.
‘‘Both shade sails were ripped apart and sections of the play equipment underneath were damaged,’’ Ms Jardine said.
‘‘This will be replaced as soon as possible but thankfully students were not in attendance on the day.’’
The electricity remained off for about five hours within the Clunes township.
