AFTER last week’s ‘‘old-fashioned Daylesford weather’’ the Friends of Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens could not have had a better day for their Winter Gardens event.
The day was organised to showcase rare and winter plants and how gardeners can ‘‘make their garden look good in winter’’, Friends secretary Patrice O’Shea said.
Ms O’Shea said the day was absolutely wonderful with a real sense of positive community spirit.
‘‘The lectures were well supported and while we [FWHBG] were just looking to cover costs for the event, over $3000 was raised,’’ she said.
People who attended were able to browse the gardens and courtyards at Villa Parma while enjoying local wine and hearty soup.
‘‘We couldn’t have done it without the generosity of Chris Malden and Wayne Cross, owners of Villa Parma, and Michael De Vincent, from Biggin, and Scott who helped with signage and catering,’’ Ms O’Shea said.
Megan Hamer won the raffle, which was donated by Victoria Varraso, of Manteau Noir.
