The Burras wasted a golden opportunity to bolster their percentage on Saturday, kicking 8.23 (71) to 2.9 (21) against second-bottom side Rokewood-
Corindhap.
“At one point in the last quarter, I said to everyone on the bench that there was more chance of me winning Tattslotto than us kicking a goal,” a frustrated Raak said.
“We kicked 1.8 in the first quarter and it didn’t get any better after that.
“The conditions were very tough because our ground was very muddy, but we still should have kicked better than we did.
“You can never knock a 50-point win in the wet conditions, but it should have been much bigger than that. We need to make sure we kick better when we play the better sides.”
Tanner Wills relished the heavy conditions, playing his best game of the season across half-back.
Daniel O’Halloran put his hand up for more league best and fairest results with another solid game through the middle of the ground.
Alan Ware, Corey Taylor and Ken Cummings were solid contributors for the Burras.
The win consolidated Hepburn’s fourth placing on the ladder. The Burras are half a game and percentage behind second and third-placed Buninyong and Waubra after they played out a thrilling draw on Saturday.
“A draw was probably the worst result for us,” Raak said.
“I would have preferred one of the two sides to win the game outright.
“The main thing is that we keep winning. We have a couple of tough games (Buninyong and top side Bungaree) to play before the finals.
“If we keep winning, we’ll finish inside the top four and that’s always been our number one goal.
“If you finish in the top four, you give yourself every chance of winning a flag.”
This Saturday the Burras are away to bottom side Smythesdale.
“We’ll have a big week on the training track this week in a bid to get some more fitness into the boys,” Raak said.
“That means we’ll probably go into the game on heavy legs. Hopefully, we kick the ball better this week.”
