Despite a few days of rain leading into the event, organisers managed to get everything together to ensure the event would go ahead as scheduled.
At noon, as the first of the cars rolled onto the track, there was not a cloud in sight.
The track was damp but held up well throughout the day with the water truck sitting idle.
National champion Anthony Bear travelled from Mt Gambier for the event, however he didn’t have much luck as his gearbox blew up in the first heat of the day.
There were a few more casualties throughout the other heats which created more opportunities for the slower cars.
Daylesford Speedway driver Colin Ward, in the powerful car 59 of Fred Cattermole’s, rolled in the final Gold Rush heat.
He blew a tyre going into turn one and didn’t make it out of turn two before he rolled over.
In the 13-car final, the crowd was pumped and ready to see what would happen
The cars did a lap of honour behind the pace car and you could only savour the moment because as soon as the green flag was waved, the atmosphere changed as they roared around the track.
There was some jostling through the field before a couple of cautions brought them back together.
Overall there were five cars forced out of the race, which left eight cars to finish.
Brad McClure used all his steadfast skills from a pole position start to hold off a competitive field in the finals to win.
There were some very threatening attempts to overtake him from Mick Clark, Lewis Clark, Darren Giacometti, Shane Roycroft, Peter Dredge, Nathan Dunn, Brad Newlan and Shaun Henry but he held his line and now holds the Gold and Cash.
Daylesford Speedway Members A and B Mod cars and a few Street Stocks combined to race in the support field.
