IN WHAT turned out to be a rematch of last season's grand final Equs got its revenge and defeated a gallant Glenlyon team.
The first set saw Glenlyon - with great team play from Andrew Cooper and Ray Irving - win 25/22.
The second set brought out the best in Equs with Yona Lloyd serving strongly and with Fraser Hutchison spiking to win 25/23.
The third set again saw the dominance of Equs with Jade Booth producing some power serving that rattled Glenlyon and had them chasing the ball all over the stadium.
The set score of 25/20 and the momentum of the game gave clear indication that the grand final was in the bag. Glenlyon had other ideas and, with Jay Gardiner and Brian Kew combining with great placement of the ball into the opponent's court, the CFA dominated the set to win
25/17.
The scene was set for a nerve-rattling finish with Glenlyon surging to the lead. Cindy Cooper and Tez Kavanagh-Dando rattled the sabre for their team through their desperate dives to retrieve balls that appeared to be winners for the opposition.
Equs fought back through the efforts of Sian Henry, with her great coverage of the court, to direct traffic to her spikers.
The set then went point for point with the pressure building on all players as each touch of the ball felt like a lead weight on that player's shoulders.
Ted Cooper for Glenlyon penetrated the opponent's court and brought the scores to 13 points all.
Tanya Beacham for Equs then flicked the ball for a winner. With the next point deciding the match, a power serve rolled off the arms of a Glenlyon player and Equs were the new premiers.
