ON SATURDAY, January 17, Daylesford's senior tennis players enjoyed a warm and windy day but without Jackson Browne's early-model Chevrolet.
In the two higher divisions the competition was very tight, but in division three Sonia Maude 22/12 broke through for her inaugural win as she continued her recent good form to come home with a wet sail.
After losing her first set she won the next three to swamp Max Risstrom and David Rowbotham who dead-heated for second with 19/15 each of two.
In division two Gabe Kirby 22/17 held sway with a stylish and close victory ahead of visitors Josh Maude 22/18 and Kelvin Maude 23/19 in the minor placings. Patrick Murray came a close fourth with 23/21.
In division one it all came down to the wire as first Winston Silbereisen and then Greg Malcher lost their final sets in 6/7 tie-breaks, resulting in Winston winning 26/18 by a game over Greg 25/18. Adrian Maude with 24/19 snuck in for third ahead of Bernie Frith 23/21.
Play begins at 1.30pm on Saturdays, so players unable to attend by 1.15pm should notify the club of their late arrival via Greg Malcher 0419 482 230 or Adrian Maude 0408 538 233. A social hit is also available for those who do not want to play in the competition.
Afternoon tea roster for January 24: B. Frith, W. Silbereisen, G. Malcher, T. Hoffman.
