21 Oct, 2008 12:00 PM
THIS week saw an in form Kingston Smeaton Purple take on Creswick Sapphire.

Tom Willmott, Glen Coleman and Ash James of Purple began well, winning all the boys' sets.

The first two girls' sets were tiebreaks, going one each way.

Sapphire's Katelyn and Jessica Sutton snatched the third girls' set but the mixed sets went all Purple's way. Purple ended up with a solid win.

Newlyn Yellow took on Creswick Opal and came out on top.

Yellow's Kris Sandford, Adam Jolliffe, Nicole McKay and Ashleigh Jolliffe were all three-set winners.

Nikki Bell and Sarah Vermeend were the only set takers for Opal.

The final match of the round was between Blowhard Gold and St Augustines Black.

Black proved too strong, winning eight of the nine sets.

Black's Michael White, Chahli Curwood-Hyde, Grace Francis and Eliza Daniher were all three-set winners.

Best for Gold were Joshua Wilson and Alex Coleridge, who won their team's only set.

I think S. Vermeend needs to have a real go if the Opals are going to get anywhere.
