THE Daylesford Lawn Tennis courts were described as being in their "best ever" condition as matches were fought out in the opening to the competition season.
In Division 1, Sheryl Place tore a "quaddie" muscle in the first set resulting in a rescheduling of all subsequent sets.
Bernie Frith was able to win 25/14 over Greg Stewart 23/15, with Winston Silbereisen third on 17/11.
In Division 2, John Turnbull 23/12 was a clear winner, with a blanket covering the next four players. Trish Kevin 23/16 snuck in for second ahead of Madeleine Ingham 20/14, with Helen Jenkin 21/15 edging out James Clough 23/17 for fourth. Gabe Kirby 22/19 was fifth.

in the season opening's social hit-up.
Each week the competition commences at 1.30pm sharp so players are being asked to present each week by 1.15pm. The social hit begins at about 2pm.
Juniors tennis begins on Saturday, 1 November.
A big group of enthusiastic juniors is expected to register for the competition.
Registration begins at 9am for a 9.30am start. Parents are encouraged to attend to help the season opening progress smoothly.
Junior fees are $35 plus $22 insurance levy. Ball money is $2 a week.
