Junior tennis in Daylesford

25 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
WITH the Daylesford Lawn Tennis Association club championships only a month away it must have been the smell of Tarn-off on the silverware that lured five players back for their debut matches this season.

In section 1, two of them led the field in with past-president Adrian Maude 22/14 edging out Sam Johnson 22/15. Pete Hatfield 21/17 was third ahead of Brian Nolan, fourth with 19/17 and Taylor Hofman 19/19.

In section 2, Gary Thomas had an emphatic 24/9 victory, well ahead of Brendan Murray 20/14.

Anne Johns 19/15 came third, just in front of Gabe Kirby 16/13 and Sally Malcher 19/18.

A social group played and is keen to welcome new members. Turn up before 2pm.

Tennis continues this week at 6pm Wednesday evening and then on Saturday.

JUNIOR TENNIS

Daylesford junior tennis started on Saturday morning.

It was great to see a few parents helping out with the beginners who are making great progress with hot shots.

In section 1, Julian Hobson won with 19/5 ahead of Kelly Matheson-Miller 17/7 and 14/10. Liam Murray was fourth with 13/11 and Rory Olver was fifth with 12/12. Harrison Nevill, Josh Butlin and Oscar Thompson were not too far away.

In section 2, Isabella Thomas and Lachie Hobson dead-heated 9/7, ahead of Molly Aberdein 8/8 with Sophie Anscombe and Bethany Olver inseparable on 7/9 close behind.
