SOME morning rain dampened the Daylesford lawn tennis courts with an overcast and humid afternoon eventuating.
Showers threatened the three sections of competition but nothing was going to rain on Helen Jenkins' parade as the stand-out performer on the day.
The former club champion displayed all her court craft to record an emphatic 24/9 win in Section 3.
Sonia Maude 22/16 was a clear second ahead of Gabe Kirby 16/15, with Maddy Ingham close by with 17/16 for fourth.
In Section 2, John Turnbull with 6/2, 6/2, 6/3 led into the final set in which he and partner Warrick Clough were pitted against the then second-placed Pete Risstrom ( 2/6, 6/1, 6/0) and James Clough.
A rout ensued, as the younger Clough and Risstrom 6/1 yielded an eventually easy win to Risstrom: 20/8 to Turnbulls 19/13.
Trish Kevin 17/16 continued her good form for third place, edging out both James Clough 16/16 and Warrick Clough 15/15, who placed equal fourth.
Pete Ekstedt cleaned up in Section 1, winning all four sets to finish with 25/12 to collect his first glass; not his last it is suspected. Winston Silbereisen nearly stole the show with an impressive 7/6, 6/1, 6/1 beginning but then faded in the last set to finish second with a nevertheless-
impressive 21/14.
Greg Malcher 19/15 snuck in for third ahead of Jeremy Harper 20/17 and Adrian Maude, who finished all square, on one leg, for 23/23.46 games. Lucky it wasn't hot.
