Frith on top in battle for section-one supremacy

18 Nov, 2008 09:34 AM
COURTS were in great condition and a fine day greeted the 29 players in Saturdays Daylesford Lawn Tennis Club's competition.

However, a blustery wind sometimes made play tricky and players who adapted well generally finished on top.

In section 1, three experienced players managed to fill the placings with Bernie Frith on top, with 24 games for and 14 against.

John Simmonds with 21/15 finished second just in front of Winston Silbereisen with 21/16.

The club welcomed back Robbie Rodgers to the courts and he managed to finish in the black on 22/21 in his comeback game.

Taylor Hofman with 24/13 won section two. He was celebrating the end of exams and played accordingly.

Second was Roz Roberts with 21/12 and third was Geoff Parentich with 21/14.

Even though the closest set in this section was 6/4 there were many long and exciting rallies demonstrated throughout the day.

In section three, the Ingham family again dominated proceedings with father Gerard winning all four sets to score 24/9 - to win narrowly from his daughter Maddie with 21/8.

Third was Scott Kinnear with 19/15.

Gerard won the highest percentage of the day award with 266 per cent.

Five players participated in the social competition for the day and all enjoyed their sets, swapping around their playing partners throughout the day.

Players are reminded that all names should be down by 1.15pm at the latest so play can start on time at 1.30pm.

Members can contact match committee members Adrian Maude on 0408 538 233 or Bernie Frith on 0429 487 614 to put their name down for play.
