FOOTBALLERS and netballers will unite for a common cause this Sunday, when the inaugural Trentham Cup is staged to raise funds for improved sports facilities in the town.
President of the Trentham District Football and Netball Club Rod Hassett said the 2010 was a "turning point" for the club.
Most of the facilities at Trentham's sports ground are more than 60 years old and are badly run down.
Mr Hassett said the Trentham Cup, along with a recent Federal Government grant to upgrade the change rooms in Trentham, would be a real boost.
Mr Hassett expects hundreds of people to attend the cup this Sunday, billed as a "lightening premiership" between four clubs.
Competing are: Trentham FNC, Illabarook FNC, Maryborough Rovers FNC and Campbells Creek FNC.
Mr Hassett believes this Trentham Cup fundraiser symbolises a turning point for the club.
"The purpose is to improve infrastructure," Mr Hassett said.
"This particular day gives everyone the chance to visit the club, look at the facilities and see how we are struggling."
All proceeds from the cup will be used to assist the Hepburn Shire and Trentham FNC upgrade facilities, both for the benefit of users and visitors to the area.
Mr Hassett said it would also provide each team with some valuable match experience leading into the 2010 season.
The winning team will receive $500.
The league would like to encourage as many people as possible to turn out "in force" and get behind the initiative.
The first game of football starts at 11pm, with the grand final at 4.30pm.
