THE Daylesford tennis season opens on Saturday on the Daylesford Lawn Tennis Courts in West St, Daylesford.
DLTC is looking forward to a great season and Peter Risstrom has the courts in fantastic nick. The current dry spell has brought them up beautifully.
The club is keen to encourage as many players as possible to play by offering a flexible ladder system for the Saturday afternoon competition.
The tennis can be very keen, but the aim is for enjoyable tennis for all.
Over the winter break the committee has decided on a number of exciting initiatives to occur over the coming months, including major improvements in the watering system to provide improved playing conditions.
However the first of these innovations is a meet and greet for visitors and newcomers to coincide with the season opening.
While the senior players start their ladder competition, visitors and newcomers are invited to join club members for a free social hit and afternoon tea from 2pm onwards.
All visitors need to bring are a tennis racquet, flat tennis shoes and the desire to try the pleasure of tennis on grass.
The competition starts in earnest at 1.30pm for members and prospective players, who are asked to be at the club at 12.30pm for registration.
Juniors competition begins on Saturday, November 1, with a 9am arrival for a 9.30am start. If last season's parental involvement is repeated we will have a fantastic junior tennis program.
The new committee is: president Adrian Maude; vice-president Geoff Parentich; secretary and member relations Gabrielle Bence; treasurer and social activities Nicole Olver; junior tennis Helen Jenkin; media and ladder Greg Malcher; and committee members including Peter Risstrom,
Bernie Frith and Winston Silbereisen.
Fees, which have remained virtually unchanged for the past four seasons, have have been set for 2008/2009 as follows:
Weekly ball money: seniors $6; juniors $2.
Season memberships: family $250 plus $22 per person insurance levy (set by and paid to Tennis Victoria by the end of November); senior $120 plus $22 levy as above; intermediate/student: $70 plus $22 levy; social $70 plus $22 levy; and junior $35 plus $22 levy.
