THURSDAY night tennis resumed after the Christmas break with four even matches, but it was even closer on Saturday with Sam Johnson and Barry Dimond inseparable after four hot sets.
Pete's Pistols 25 beat Barry's Diamonds 23 in the tightest Section 1 clash in the midweek twilight comp, while in the other game Just Rusty established a four-game lead early on and held it to defeat Dwyer's Crew 26-22.
In Section 2, Bliss 28 beat Hobson's Heroes 20, Dreamers 27 accounted for Secondary Teachers 21, and Sally's Swingers 37 sorted out Drama Queens 11.
Sam Johnson and Barry Dimond were tied at the end of the third set of play in Section 1 on a sultry Saturday.
They were paired in their last set, winning it 6/1, with final scores of 20/13 to overcome Peter Hatfield 23/15 by .5%.
Brian Nolan was fourth with 19/15, Pete Ekstedt fifth on 21/17 and Bernie Frith sixth on 17/16.
In Section 2, John Turnbull cantered to an easy 25/10 victory ahead of Gerard Ingham 20/14 and Gabe Kirby 17/14. Lynn Dwyer was fourth on 15/15.
Members and visitors of less competitive bent are reminded of Wednesday evening tennis at 6pm and Friday morning tennis at 9.30am.
The Friday tennis group is having lots of fun, and is finished before the day heats up. If you have not played for years and want to start up without pressure, this is the group for you. Just turn up at the West Street courts with your old racquet.
Information about the club championships on the weekend of 25/26 February will be sent out after the committee meeting this week.
