Central Highland's tennis team fares well in Foundation Cup

24 Nov, 2009 10:55 AM
CENTRAL Highlands has improved its standing to finish third in Tennis Victoria's premier regional 13-and-under girls' event, the Foundation Cup.

Central Highlands won three of its four preliminary rounds to earn a place in the play-off for third and fourth.

Zoe Hives, Holly Dobbyn, Stella Johnston and Jaimee White edged out East Gippsland by two games in the four-match contest.

Central Highlands finished eighth last year.

Zoe Hives led the way for Central Highlands.

She lost just once in the two-day event at Traralgon, winning four singles and four doubles. Her only loss was to Barwon's Ramona Mataruga.

They played one of the matches of the event, with Mataruga taking the points 9-8.

Hives did get some revenge by combining with Jaimee White to take out the doubles in that tie.

Tennis Victoria expects to next week name four players from the tournament to represent Victoria in the national Foundation Cup in Sydney in January.
