MEMBERS of the Morrison family in Daylesford have reached an unusual milestone.
Three of the four-member family achieved their black belt in the Korean martial art of Taekwondo this month.
Shane achieved his third dan black belt, his wife sharon gained her second dan black belt and daughter Taneale her first dan, graduating together.
This grading brings to four the number of black belts in the Morrison family with son Adric achieving his first dan last year.
Shane started his training in Daylesford in 1998, going along to the club with his children. He was graded by fifth dan master instructor, Russell Trainor in Ballarat.
Shane's grading is fully accredited with the national Taekwondo body, Taekwondo Australia and the International Olympic Taekwondo body, World Taekwondo Federation.
Mr Trainor said Shane was a very keen masters competitior and now he had "lead the charge".
He said it was quite uncommon for a family to achieve their black belts.
The grading required the demonstration of a range of Taekwondo skills including International patterns, self-defence , Olympic sparring, board breaking and Taekwondo theory.
Shane and Sharon teach Taekwondo weekly at Daylesford, Castlemaine and Kyneton to some 80 local martial arts enthusiasts.
The Morrison's were joined at the Ballarat black belt graduation by Daylesford youngster Katelyn Bugden, 13, who was promoted to second poom junior black belt.
Shane also gained his second grade referee certificate. He has refereed at regional and state competitions.
