State Government chips in with funding for Daylesford's Victoria Park redevelopment

21 Apr, 2009 11:24 AM
THE State Government has donated $127,050 towards a $170,000 redevelopment of facilities at Victoria Park, Daylesford.

The funding was announced last Wednesday by Regional Development Minister Jacinta Allen when she visited the sports ground.

Ms Allen said the funding would secure "the redevelopment of this facility".

"Victoria Park is such a focal point for the local community," she said.

"It has seen great success with the football club, which I believe were finalists last year, and this year's ChillOut was the best ever."

Ms Allen said the money would be used to upgrade lighting, electricity and sunsmart shading, replace the ageing ticket box, relocate the cricket pitch and put a new roof on the agricultural pavilion.

"This is going to generate local jobs and is a partnership with local council and community," she said.

Mayor Bill McClenaghan said he "loved it" when ministers came to the shire.

"I like it even more when we get good news," he said.

"We all appreciate it when the State Government puts its hand in its pocket."

Cr McClenaghan said that while the community had been "knocked down a little by the fires" it had bounded back with strong trading over Easter and a huge crowd at the ChillOut Festival.
