THE Daylesford Angling Club held its presentation night last month with a strong turn out of members and their families.
The season highlight for the club was taking out the Midlands Shield for the first time in 10 years after catching the most fish in the 2007/08 season.
First-year member Garry Newmann received the best clubman award.
He said club members enjoyed a great social life.
"It's one of the best things a father and son could do together. And fishing is not just a sport for men," he said.
"We need youth to join. They are the strength of our club and they're vital to our future."
Another member Sue Thomas said Mr Newmann had been the lifeblood of the club over the past year.
"What he's done for the club this year is phenomenal. He endlessly runs raffles, organises wood chops and donates money," Ms Thomas said.
Mr Newmann said new members were welcome to attend the club's annual meeting on July 7 at 8pm at the Daylesford Hotel.
