DAYLESFORD is to form its own roller derby league.
Daylesford ARC manager Lissa McIldowney said interest in roller derby in Daylesford was high since the ARC hosted a bout between the Geelong and Ballarat Roller Derby Leagues as part of ChillOut in March this year.
More than 500 spectators attended the event, sparking the idea that Daylesford should have a roller derby league of its own.
``Daylesford will need a team of at least 12 skaters to form its own league,'' Ms McIldowney said.
``The Ballarat Roller Derby League is assisting with coaching to begin with, but the aim is to train our own coaches as well.''
Roller derby will be held at the Daylesford ARC, Smith St on Tuesdays between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, from May 25.
Women and girls over 15 years are being encouraged to grab their fishnets and give it a go. No skating experience is necessary as full training is provided.
Men can also participate, particularly as referees. Would-be roller derby queens should register their interest and skate size by calling the ARC on 5348 1777 or by sending an email to daylesfordrollerderby@gmail.com.a u.
Cost is $6 per session and skates are provided.
The Skate Victoria annual registration fee is $25, or $10 for three trial sessions.
