The 18-year-old from Daylesford has grasped every opportunity to play netball and devotes her time to three top teams in the district.

Purtell plays in the seniors for Hepburn. She also plays for Della JDs in the premier league in Ballarat. And finally, Purtell is a key player at state level for Ballarat Pride.

At 164cm, Purtell has the ability to play in all positions around the court. She plays wing attack for Ballarat Pride and goal shooter for Hepburn.

"I'm normally a shooter. I used to play basketball," she said.

"I left Daylesford Secondary College and went to Ballarat High School for my sport. I lost my passion for basketball and started to work my way up to all the netball squads."

Purtell started playing with Ballarat Pride when she was about 16, which she says was a young age for that level of competition.

"I'm 18 now and have developed my skills and experience. I hope to win a premiership one day," she said.

Purtell, who works full-time at Frank Ford Travel in Ballarat, said she enjoyed the social aspect of the game.

"I play in the premier league on Thursday nights, Ballarat Pride on Wednesday and Sundays and Hepburn on Saturdays," she said.

Purtell said she got her interest in playing netball after Ballarat High School transferred her from basketball.

She said she hadn't looked back since.
