MANY Daylesford district people joined the 1500 riders in the 20th Murray to Moyne relay ride at the weekend.
A large team and support crew represented Creswick's John Curtin Memorial Hostel while the Daylesford Wheelsuckers raised funds for Hepburn Health Service and the Clunes Cruisers for the Clunes Health Service.
The Creswick riders left Echuca on Saturday morning and arrived in Port Fairy about 11.30am Sunday - a ride of about 520kms.
The ride was the climax of the John Curtin hostel's fundraising efforts, which have raised more than $20,000 for equipment such as a lifting machine, digital camera and furnishings for the hostel.
The next goal for the team is to raise enough funds to replace the hostel's mini-bus.
Wheelsucker Winston Silbereisen said this was the first time the team did not suffer a puncture in 15 years of participation.
He said the 11 riders enjoyed the 520km relay.
"The relay has certainly become a very popular ride," Mr Silbereisen said.
"There were a lot of people involved."
He said the team arrived in Hamilton on Sunday at 2.45am.
"It's a safe ride with motorcycle marshals on roads. There is a lot of traffic though," he said.
The team hoped to have raised up to $10,000 for Hepburn Health Service in Daylesford.
People can still pay membership money by contacting Winston Silbereisen on 5348 1048.
Strong winds did not stop the Clunes Cruisers from raising up to $5000 for their health service.
The team was made up of 10 riders and five support crew.
Team member and Clunes Health Service general assistant Lynette Ingram said the riders did really well to ride from Swan Hill to Port Fairy.
"Other riders would have a chat as they rode past," she said.
"It was a really friendly experience."
Ms Ingram said people could still donate by contacting the Clunes Health Service.
The Clunes Cruisers thanked the community for its support as well as its sponsors.
