Megan's our shooting star

07 Nov, 2006 11:53 AM
AFTER picking up a bow and arrow three months ago, Megan Jordan has already walked away with a state championship.

The sixteen-year-old from Daylesford competed in the Australian Bowhunters Association State Championships for the first time in Longford near Sale.

Her score of 1010 won her the Junior Women's Sighted Division State Championship and the perpetual trophy.

"I didn't know I'd won," Megan said.

"It was really exciting."

Standing 160 centimetres, Jordan was one of 150 competitors at the two-day shoot.

She was required to shoot 20 targets per round.

"I competed in the Junior Womens Bowhunter Limited for the first time, and the only open competition so far," she said.

Jordan has been a member of the Ballarat Bowhunters Club since June.

She said she competed twice a month and practised in her paddock at home.

The Daylesford Secondary College student also said she had played archery at school camps.

"I always wanted to do a bit of archery so I looked into it," she said.

"It's challenging but you improve. It's not an easy sport. It's very technical."

Jordan said members of the Ballarat Bowhunters Club looked after her and helped her improve her skills.

She said her family was very supportive and it wouldn't be long until her father took up the sport.

The national championships will be held in Wagga Wagga at Easter.
