THE Daylesford Speedway Club is developing the next generation of speedway stars after junior drivers completed their training last Sunday.
Five drivers aged between 12 and 17 years old took part in the Daylesford Speedway Club Junior Development program designed by National Australia of Speedway Racing.
Daylesford Speedway Club trainer Bob Williams said the five drivers had shown excellent capabilities through the three weekend intensive training.
Mr Williams said the training was about understanding the vehicle and how to handle it correctly while getting along with other drivers.
"It allows the kids to drive at fast rates but with safety," he said.
"It's an educational program which helps make drivers better equipped for when they get on the roads at an older age."
Mr Williams said the first racing day was scheduled for Sunday, November 1 at the Daylesford Speedway.
Treasurer Anne Wilson said it was the third year the club had provided the training with help from a Hepburn Shire Council's Community Grants.
"We have had 20 Speedway Juniors as young as 12-years-old complete this course who are now racing regularly at the Daylesford Speedway," Ms Wilson said.
"Some have moved onto the senior driving levels and are very competitive with the adult drivers."
Ms Wilson said the training program had been a great success and also offered junior competitors an opportunity to be involved with organising events as well as developing their skills in driving.
The club's speedway racing season starts on Sunday, November 1 at the Daylesford Speedway.
