THIS year's Lyonville woodchop was dominated by a previous champion and a family of axemen.
Brad Haines from Ballarat always seems to save his best for Lyonville, taking out the main event, the 14" Standing Block Victorian Title Championship.
The Victorian Forest Under 21 Championship was won by Brayden Meyer from Broadford, who has made a name for himself on the junior axemen circuit.
Brayden then teamed up with his brother Kyle Meyer to win the double-handed crosscut saw championship.
The best performing axeman on the day and winner of the annual Bill Maloney Memorial Trophy was under-18 axeman Blake Meyer.
Other events on the day included the novice underhand and standing block, the junior under-18 handicap and a butcher's block competition.
Lyonville Hall committee member and organiser George Bremner said ideal conditions saw an increase in the number of axemen and spectators attending the Lyonville woodchop last Saturday.
"The Axemen's Association was particularly pleased with the number of junior and novice cutters saying it was a very successful day," Mr Bremner said.
"A very popular addition with the crowd to this year's carnival was the lunchtime entertainment provided by country and western vocalist Liz McKimm.
"The Lyonville Hall committee would like to thank all those who supported this day to make it such a success."
