Newlyn Olympic medallist Jared Tallent capped a sensational athletic season with a hefty pay day in the Race Walking Challenge Final in Murcia, Spain, on Saturday.
Tallent, who won silver and bronze medals at the Beijing Olympics, finished second in the final race to take out the overall title snaring himself a $A36,000 cheque.
Tallent will be taking the prize money home to fellow racewalker Claire Wood, whom he married in Adelaide after the Olympics.
Flying the Australian flag alongside Tallent last weekend was defending champion Luke Adams, who finished in ninth place on the overall standings.
`'Jared is a very good competitor so he is motivated to do well in all the races he competes in," Tallent's Australian Institute of Sport-based coach Brent Vallence said.
