Glenlyon junior to take on state's best schools' 800-metre runners

28 Oct, 2008 11:16 AM
NATURAL talent is behind a Glenlyon runner representing Daylesford Primary School in the state finals for the Victorian Primary Schools Sports Association.

William Austin-King is the first student to make it to the finals for many years after running second in the zone finals held in Geelong on Friday, October 17.

The 12-year-old is training three or four nights a week for the 800 metres, which is his favourite event.

Daylesford Primary School principal Peter Burke said Austin-King was a quiet achiever.

"He cleaned up at our school athletics winning the 100 metres, 200 metres and 800 metres," he said.

"He also won the cross country this year and he's a good footballer."

Mr Burke said it would be tough competition as Austin-King would be up against some of the best runners in the state at this level.

"If there is a coach in Daylesford looking for a young prospect, William would be a terrific kid to have in the group," Mr Burke said.

"He's keen, loves sport and has wonderful natural ability."
