IT WAS an exciting start to the first Speedway race meeting of the season on Sunday.
A good crowd of spectators assembled and the drivers kept everyone on their toes with a couple of roll-overs and fast, competitive racing.
Peter Newlan, in car 102, mounted the wall a couple of times but managed to stay on the track and finish his races.
David Cooke, in car 52, commented after the first heat of the Street Stocks that he had forgotten how strenuous car racing was.
In the second heat, on the first lap, he tried to widen the track but met with the wall and rolled.
Cooke managed to climb out of the car and only suffered a bump on his knee.
The car suffered major damage and was retired to the workshop.
Fred Cattermole, car 59, rolled his red car in the same race but managed to continue racing it.
Luke Reid, car 56, had a spectacular crash last season on his first race and nearly managed to replicate it again in the Street Stocks. He used all his skills to get his car off the wall and continue racing.
