A DAYLESFORD father and son sidecar racing team has proved to be a winning combination on the tracks this year.
Daylesford's Noel Beare and his 20-year-old son, Dwight, competed at the Hartwell championships and won the Bob Martin memorial sidecar championship last month.
``It was a pretty good achievement for our first year of racing together. There's total trust between the two of you when you're out there,'' Noel Beare said.
``We did it on a low budget and we weren't the fastest team but we ended up being the most consistent.
``We were racing against bikes with a lot more modern and more powerful engines.''
The Beare boys racing team has appeared on tracks in Phillip Island, Winton and Broadford and raced at speeds of 200 kilometres per hour in July this year.
Beare said they were grateful to have received help with keeping the sidecar outfit maintained during the season.
Hepburn artist John Eathorne painted the bike, Hepburn Springs tradesman Hamish Millar helped rebuild the engine and Daylesford Tyre Service owner Jamie Adams kept the bike on the road by changing the tyres more than a few times.
Beare said he had wanted to race sidecars since he was eight years old and when he started racing a couple of years ago it was a dream come true, particularly racing with his son this year.
The Beares will begin the new season in February when they are hoping that the World Superbike championships at Phillip Island will include a support race for sidecars.
Beare said it would be good publicity as there would be large crowds and they would be up against some of the world's best teams.
He was also keen to hear from any businesses interested in sponsoring the pair.
