THE Daylesford Saints improved their chances of making the finals by scoring a three-nil win over North United Black on Sunday.
All three goals were scored quickly in the second half.
The game got off to a slow and frustrating start for Daylesford with North United holding the Saints at bay.
Paul Freeman came closest to scoring with a glancing header that looped over the keeper and hit the crossbar, with luck clearly not on the Saints side.The defence was in fine form, with Ivan Carter and Daniel Trotter providing pace and good runs out of defence.
The Saints were frustrated by their lack of goals in the first half.
The half-time break saw the Saints regroup and power up with some fine oranges by Hudson Beare - the inspiration for the second half goal romp.
The Saints played fine soccer in the second half with Jack Nulty, Dave Ramage and Dylan Nulty all finding extra legs in smashing home three unanswered goals.
Daniel Trotter was having a cracker of a match in defence, always first to the ball.
It was Nick Jansen who set up the first goal, hoofing the ball 100m to allow Nulty an easy score after beating the keeper from close range.
The second goal came from a series of classy passes through the midfield and ended up with Dylan Nulty slotting one home.
Daylesford was starting to hit peak form, with Tobias and Dave playing fine passes and linking together well.
The defence once again kept a clean sheet and passed the ball around well.
Jack Nulty was giving everything and set up Dave Ramage for a great opportunity, who rounded a few defender, only to see his shot blocked from a certain goal.
Jack Nulty then smashed home a goal - a pounded header from a Tobias corner - to complete the 3-0 route.
The Saints now need to win one of their next two games to be certain of a finals start.
