CRESWICK men's indoor bowls division one team has won for the second consecutive year, defeating VRI in the grand final last Tuesday.
Creswick finished on top of the ladder after the home and away season with VRI in second, Central Wendouree third and Webbcona in fourth.
Creswick started the final as favourite and was very keen to make it back-to-back premierships, which had eluded the club in previous years.
The team of Forrest, Fitzsimons, Price and Gerry Flapper were up against the VRI team headed by John Redfern.
These two teams playing each other was fitting because they finished the regular season in first and second place respectively on the skips' table.
That left Creswick's Rob Ohlsen, Rod Brehaut, Wayne Pattie and Matt Flapper to tackle the four from VRI skipped by Ian Hedger.
VRI was quick to jump out of the blocks and set up a handy early advantage. Redfern took the ascendancy on Gerry Flapper's team and pushed to an early lead 15-4 after 11 ends while on the other mat it was a two shot advantage to the Creswick four at the same stage.
Over the next couple of ends Matt Flapper carded a four and at the same stage Gerry Flapper's team picked up a three and things had become a lot closer.
Two ends later Matt Flapper's team produced what would be a telling end in the final result and carded a five to put Creswick in front.
With four ends to play overall Creswick had hit the front by seven.
The last end was played on Matt Flapper's mat and, with one bowl to play, VRI was holding a four.
With Flapper's last bowl of the match he was able to push through a bowl and remain sitting next to the kitty for one to Creswick and a solid 10-shot margin in hand 24-14.
With two ends to go and Gerry Flapper's team left to play them, they had clawed their way back from an 11 shot deficit to be only two down playing the last end, so they were left to defend the lead of eight shots.
Creswick carded a single on the last end to finish the game 15-16 and it was back-to-back premierships.
