THE BIBBA Indoor Pennant Division 1 and Division 3 grand finals were played at Sebastopol Bowling Club on Tuesday August 11.
In Men's Division 1, at the completion of the home-and-away games, Creswick was top of the table with Midlands Golf sitting in second position. Third place was Webbcona and fourth went to Learmonth.
The first final saw Creswick advance straight into the grand final with a convincing win thanks to the domination of Creswick's Gerry Flappers team against Midlands David Speechley.
Learmonth overpowered Webbcona to advance to play Midlands the following week. Midlands was too strong for Learmonth and earned the right to have another crack at Creswick.
Having competed for the past two consecutive years in the decider, with one win to each side, it was going to prove to be an exciting game.
Midlands Golf started the game very positive and with the same team draw as the semi-final.
Midlands took the early ascendency getting out to lead by 12.
After the halfway mark Midlands still had the advantage with an eight-shot lead. Speechley had Gerry Flapper by about seven and Hawken had Matthew Flapper by one.
Creswick staged a fightback and with six ends left in the game they had reduced the margin to one shot.
Matthew Flapper had taken the advantage over Hawkens' team and was out to a five-shot lead while Gerry Flapper's four had reduced their margin to only four shots.
After 18 ends were completed in the Flapper/Speechley game it was the Mid Golf combination that finished with a three-shot advantage.
Going into their last end Creswick held a two-shot lead on the overall scoreboard. With one bowl to play by each Flapper and Hawken, Mid Golf held five shots on the head.
Hawken with his last bowl of the match added the sixth shot and it looked as though the Creswick big man had to pull out a miracle.
He studied the head and after discussions with his third, Chris, went back to deliver what would be the final bowl.
With all his team mates watching on anxiously he let it go and when the bowl come to rest he had reduced the head to be one shot down, meaning he had pulled off the victory for Creswick - winning the premiership by one shot.
Score: Creswick 31 d Midlands 30. Gerry Flapper 13 - 16 Matt Flapper 18 - 14.
