GREENS at Clunes Bowling Club will be improved when turf is replaced with a more sustainable grass species.
A State Government grant of $45,594 through the club's Sustainable Greens project will pay for the upgrade.
The project will involve replacing the club's current turf with tidwarf-couchgrass, providing a quality and resilient playing surface.
The funding comes after the club last year claimed government funding schemes often neglected Clunes organisations without justification.
The club applied for a grant to fix the same greens through the Department of Sport and Recreation in 2006, but it was knocked back last year because the application didn't fit the department's criteria.
At the time, bowling club member and former Clunes Football Club president Arno Van Berkel said Clunes was often forgotten when it came to receiving grants from all levels of government.
The Member for Ripon, Joe Helper visited the club on Friday to present the funding to the club's committee.
He said the funding, made possible through the State Government's Community Facility Funding Program - Minors Category, would be a significant boost to the club.
"Like many country bowling clubs, the ongoing drought has impacted hard on the club's existing greens and made it necessary for the club to explore more sustainable options," Mr Helper said.
He said the announcement would help the club to move forward after vandalism to its greens earlier this year.
"I was shocked and saddened to learn of the mindless attack on the club's bowling greens earlier this year," he said.
"Thankfully, the club and its members have bounced back from this setback and today's announcement is important recognition of their efforts."
