Bombers edge out Kookas in table tennis finals

A NIGHT of upset as the leading team Kookas was edged out of the finals by the determined Bombers, who won narrowly 6-5. Kookas' E Jarlaud won two and M Hofman won two, but R Scott failed to win any rubber.

The dominant F Brunt won his three singles for the Bombers with teammates A Brown and D Gleeson winning one rubber each.

Both teams managed to win one doubles each.

The second leading team, Demons, was also knocked out of the finals by the Tigers in another close match, 6-5.

Demons' D Cooper won two singles and teammates P Francis and B Marshall won one rubber each.

Aggregate player A Verplak of the Tigers won her three singles with fill-in P Gartland doing his bit by winning two.

Both teams also won one doubles each. The finals for the A grade will see the Bombers facing the Tigers. Games start 7:30pm, Wednesday, at Victoria Park.

Juniors Finals

Eight juniors qualified for the finals. The knock-out round saw L Bossinger scoring a bye as opponent A Mill defaulted. D Yoxall won comfortably against T Bull, as did HR Villiers over J Bull. J Villiers had a tough win against X.Irving.

Harry Robb Villiers dominated in the round robin format with three wins, followed by David Yoxall with two wins. The bronze medal was awarded to John Villiers.
