AFTER playing all 13 teams and remaining undefeated, the Hepburn netball team was again ready to face old rivals Daylesford at Victoria Park.
With a limited bench and missing key defender Ebony Place, the Burras were eager to prove their first round 74-point win over Daylesford wasn't just luck.
Lauren Place in wing attack, captain Libby Purtell in centre and Hannah Cameron-Taylor in wing defence were the key to Hepburn's defence.
The well-structured mid court was instructed to shut down its opponent's attacking drives.
Place, being a natural defender, teamed up with her centre and wing defence to cut off Daylesford's run through the centre court.
Kristina Closhey in goal attack worked tirelessly in attack and combined brilliantly with goal shooter Jane Lienhop.
The Burras managed to run away with the game and keep Daylesford down to only four goals or less each quarter.
Final score: Hepburn 63, Daylesford 13. Kristina Closhey was one of Hepburn's best on court shooting at 85 per cent.
Reserves
HEPBURN 'S second placed reserves team was also keen to improve on its 35 goal win over Daylesford in round one.
Also running with a limited bench, the Burras had been training and focussing on using different line ups.
Using the height of Courtney Wetzel in goal keeper, backed up by experienced Mel Browne in goal defence, Daylesford came out firing and made the Burras' defence work overtime.
The speed and patience of captain Janee Brown in centre allowed Hepburn to eventually control the ball down court. Goal attack Tania Grant shared the goaling with Mel Penny until Hepburn's speed broke their opponent's confidence. Quick thinking in attack provided numerous
opportunities for Penny to be fed the ball under the post and score.
Hepburn again were strong winners with the final score 42 to 22.
