Creswick Women's Bowling Club celebrates 60 years of history

17 Nov, 2009 11:44 AM
CRESWICK Ladies bowlers held their 60th birthday celebration on Sunday.

Past Ladies from Creswick Bowling Club and members gathered for the occasion and had a ``very successful day''.

Lady president Judith Caddy and secretary Merlyn Hubbard also welcomed a number of guests, including Victorian Ladies Bowling Association president Maureen Connolly and representatives from all Ballarat Ladies Bowling Clubs.

At the event, the ladies celebrated the history of their club and there were many reminiscences available from some of our present older members

The ladies began in 1949 with 12 members, as social members of the Creswick Bowling Club.

They entered their first two teams into B-grade pennant sections one and two in 1955 and came home with their first flag.

In 1956 the first Ladies Club Championship was held and Mrs W. (Mary) Archibald was the winner.

Also in that year the first club pairs were held.

To ensure uniform correctness, in 1964 a hem adjuster and mirror was purchased to ensure hems were 14 inches from the ground.
