17 Aug, 2010 01:09 PM
WILD weather could not stop 96 players making the journey to Smeaton for the annual Creswick Pharmacy Men's Fours tournament.

The Creswick Pharmacy tournament has become one of the state's most prestigious men's fours bowls events in recent years, with 19 current state representatives and five current and former national players in attendance.

After serving up a feast of bacon and egg sandwiches for breakfast, the players got into the games.

There was one game before the Creswick ladies served up a magnificent lunch and then two games following.

Teams that were undefeated after three games went into a play-off over five ends.

There were four three-game winners: Creswick's Matt Flapper; Midlands Golf's David Speechley; and Richie Bissett and Anthony Flapper from Nth Districts (Melbourne).

The first play-off went to M. Flapper who defeated A. Flapper's team and D. Speechley who defeated R. Bissett's team.

The final went to the team of Peter Considine, Richard Castles, Paul Speechley and David Speechley, who accounted for Rod Barton, Charlie Darken, Wayne Pattie and Matt Flapper in a very entertaining final. ql

Final results:

Winners: P. Considine, R. Castles, P. Speechley, D. Speechley.

Runners-up: R. Barton, C. Darken, W. Pattie, M. Flapper.
