TRENTHAM Golf Club has recently opened three new greens.
On May 15, the latest stage in the club's course-improvement came to fruition with the opening of three new greens on the 6th, 8th and 14th holes.
Competitors in the monthly medal event were the first to play on the redeveloped greens.
The club decided to undertake a long-term course improvement program in 1995, with the aim of guaranteeing the club's future.
The club developed a comprehensive plan, instituted under the guidance of well-known course architect and former Australian Amateur Champion Kevin Hartley.
The plan was to rebuild every green on the course, along with some hole changes, course lengthening, bunker installation and fairway improvement.
Irrigation was installed in February and the new greens sown in early March.
Club president John Hudson said since the course re-development had begun, they had increased their membership while many clubs across Australia had lost members.
He said green fee numbers had risen more than 300 per cent.
In 1996, the course redevelopment began with the construction of six new greens, a new par-3 2nd hole and a new par-4 16th.
In 2001 two greens were rebuilt, followed by a further three in 2006.
Trentham has now rebuilt 14 of its 18 greens and aims to undertake the remaining four greens within the next three to four years.
Each year Trentham Golf Club conducts a charity day, where all proceeds from competition entry, raffles and a trading table are donated to a local community organisation or a charity.
This year Trentham Golf Club donated their charity day proceeds of $705 to the Trentham CFA, which it will put towards meeting room improvements for their volunteers.
Previous charity recipients have included Trentham Aged Care and the Black Saturday Bushfire Relief Fund.
