HEPBURN Shire sports clubs and associations are being urged to team up with the council for a share in funding for grassroots capital works projects.
Ballarat East MLA Geoff Howard said the 2007/2008 Community Facility Funding Program would help meet the sport and recreation needs of the community.
"The Community Facility Program contributes to the building or redevelopment of facilities ranging from aquatic facilities and basketball stadiums to bowling greens and playgrounds," he said.
"Each project should be well planned and show how it will make it easier and more appealing for people to increase their level of physical activity."
Mr Howard said the State Government's Go For Your Life campaign aimed to get more Victorians involved in physical activity, and high quality, accessible sport and recreation facilities helped achieve this.
The council can apply for planning or building grants under three funding categories.
These include minor facilities, major facilities and aquatic access/better pools.
Community organisation can apply through the council for minor facilities grants of up to $60,000 for projects with a total cost of $200,000. Project proposals must be submitted to the council by September 8.
The council can apply directly to Sport and Recreation Victoria for grants of up to $500,000 for major facilities projects, $2.5 million for aquatic access/better pools projects and $30,000 for planning projects.
Funding for major facilities and aquatic access/better pools grants is expected to be announced by late September, and minor facilities grants by February next year.
