DAYLESFORD men's volleyball team played in the prestigious 36th annual Warrnambool Volleyball tournament last month.
The competition was of a high level with state and Australian players representing their various teams and associations.
Some 73 teams competed in nine divisions of men's and women's volleyball.
Daylesford won their first two games in close matches against Mildura and Melton Association teams with both matches having set scores of three sets love.
The next day saw Daylesford challenged by the Warrnambool Pirates who won the match by two sets to one.
With a fight to be in the top two to play in the final, Daylesford fought a tooth-and-nail match to win 25/17, 26/24, 22/25 against the North West Pumas.
The final round-robin match saw the tournament favourite Geelong Association team defeat Daylesford three sets love.
Geelong and Daylesford finished first and second and played for the championship.
Geelong took an early two sets' lead as Daylesford crumbled under the pressure of finals volley ball with the nerves the telling factor.
The third set saw Daylesford play outstanding attacking volleyball to win the set and threaten to reverse the result, but Geelong asserted its superior skills and team work to win the fourth and deciding match.
All Daylesford players showed outstanding fighting application and should be proud of their
performance.
Daylesford volleyball conducts games on Monday nights at the ARC from 6.30pm with both open and social divisions.
Girls, boys, men and women are all welcome and no experience is necessary. Just come along and have some fun.
