Ultimate teamwork

17 Jul, 2007 11:07 AM

CRESWICK'S Church St Ultimate Frisbee team has returned from a national tournament in Sydney.

The team, all from Creswick, finished fourth in the competition, but all thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

Church St coach Dan Rule said ultimate was played between teams of seven players on a rectangular pitch about the size of a soccer pitch.

"A line drawn across the pitch at either end creates two end-zones. These are the goal-scoring areas.

"A goal is scored when a team completes a pass to a player standing in the end-zone they are attacking," he said.

He said the game was a great way of developing teamwork.

The sport is taking off in Australia and participation rates have doubled in recent years.

Mr Rule said people were attracted to the game because it was a welcome change from stream sports.

"At schools people seemed to be interested in giving it a go because it's something different," he said.
